The first of a series of editions of the works of Antonino Reggio.
‘Concertini per Quattro Voci’
This volume contains four arias from a manuscript containing
twenty quartets set for three sopranos and contralto.
An unusual feature of this work is
its form and setting. It consists of quartet settings of duets from the
works of Pietro Metastasio, one of the foremost librettists of
eighteenth century ‘Opera Seria’. The work is unusually set for three
sopranos and a contralto in the ‘duetto notturno’ style. The style was
thought to be introduced in the later eighteenth century (1770) but
this work shows that it was a style used at least a decade earlier.
The arias contained in the volume are:
I Non temer non son pił amante: from 'Antigno'
II Tu vuoi ch'io viva o cara
III Ne'giorni tuoi felici : from 'Olimpiade’'
IV Destra ti chiedo: from 'Demofoonte’'
work will be published by the end of January 2013. If you are
